Mindy, I was thinking of my Astral Travel poem when I read yours. But you did capture the feeling of this poem quite well. I am going to post an update after I write this comment to you because I got some late, but good news.

Hello Mindy, Sorry about this late reply. I was thinking as I was reading your poem that one of my favorite authors Anne Rice, had a daughter that died of Leukemia at the age of 6. Sincerely, Midnight Starr

Actually the truth is that the Mayan calender does not predict the end of the world as we know it. My wife did some research on the subject. First, the Mayan calender resets itself from zero and starts over again. Second, one must consider the eve...

Just Remembering...

as my thoughts wander, swirling in my head
i can't help but think, i once was dead.

i died after a car crash, i remember it well
i could feel myself bleeding, as my stomache did swell.

i cried for my children, i prayed for my Mom
i could feel Death coming, I knew it wouldn't be long.

i tried to fight it, to keep on breathing
but could not deny, i could feel myself leaving.

i finally excepted, Death as my fate
and headed straight for, God's golden gate.

everything went white, as i exhaled my… Continue

Leukemia - a poem

Leukemia - a poem

fragile innocense
demon invades
his name... Leukemia
childhood he raids.

he causes sickness
the treatment is worse
will she survive
this awful curse?

unbearable days
another sleepless night
will her body withstand?
triumph this fight?

Leukemia flee!
leave her body alone
go back to Hell
it's where you belong!

no business here
creating pain
making a mother
go nearly insane.

the poison drink
a magic potion
softens his hold
like a lotion

chemicals to chase
the demon to Hell… Continue

Today

Today

children's laughter floats through the air
fluttering butterfly lands in her hair

smiles and giggles, kisses and hugs
interesting tales and captured bugs

music on the radio, guitar in hand
strumming along, a part of the band.

hey Dad, hear this song!
get your guitar, you can play along.

as the day heats up and the sun get's hotter
to the river we go, to cool off in the water.

when the sun starts to set, and the birds again sing
we take a short drive, to go sit in the hot spring.

The Key

The Key

I lay awake, dreaming
the mind's eye looking for a place to rest
there, atop the highest of mountains
peace fills the soul.

modern day intrusions
kept out by her rugged, rough terrain
no need to dream of brighter days
for they are here.

conflicts lost within the underbrush
of the trails the mountains create
a haven for multitudes,
those brave enough to explore.

find here what was
once thought lost
reconnect with ones self
claim the gift from the one.

seek what feels right and good

Child's Play

Child's Play

patty cake, patty cake
baker's man
criss cross applesauce
and kick-the-can

5 little monkeys
jumping on the bed
let's play war. BOOM!
now you're dead.

I am the queen
see my crown?
london bridge
is falling down.

ring around the roses
hide and seek
spin the bottle
tag, you're it!

child's play
full of games
temper flares
call some names.

innocent minds
molded fast
never prepared
for life's blast.

in the news
there is talk of war
soon their childhood
will be no more.

tensions ris… Continue

been good, been job-searching, been camping, and traveling, and writing in a little book
mainly just battling cigarettes so my concentration is el usive and harder to write. Haven't ran into any real profound parallels, so just been watching the world around slowly revolve. I have a question, can we together collaborate on a smoke-out episode of a blog cast?

Here is my first poem. I'm trying to write about college days and the transformation that I went thru. It's incomplete (not only is the story incomplete, but the existing lines need to be improved a lot). I hardly know anything about rhythm or meter yet, i'm slowly learning about all the technical stuff. anyway.. thanks for your interest

Thanks so much for the welcome, Mindy. I think you are correct about the way that tragedies help us to write. I will be posting my writing soon. I have a lot of my plate right now, and I have several doctor appointments ahead of me in the next week or so. But I will be posting, and I'm looking forward to see what everyone has to say. Thanks again for the welcome! Hugs and BB,
Jen :)

If you are aware that you exsist, then you do.
