Calling all poets!

NOW…
NOW is forever we all call today
Tomorrow and yesterday come and go fast,
Can be interrupted by the future
And caught up by the past.

NOW is in the present
Will flow if careful not to let slip,
Sometimes hard to hold
Mastered can be the best trip.

Success often it’s greatest enemy
As the need to be thinking ahead,
Ok while you are building
But no use after your dead.

So NOW looked upon with varied intent
Balance the key, find not can have regret,
The Present the priority to work and hold
The older one gets, this, easier to forget.

Embracing the past realizing the impact
Considering the future and possible effect,
Once again keeping feet on the ground
Enjoying the present nullifies any regret.

Time a significant role to understand
To ignore will cut short and hasten the end,
As life’s main gripe is not enough time
This as always the hardest to mend.

Thinking ahead all the time
Creates a momentum that has a warp,
When we look back always an excuse
Could have done better if more time to talk...

NOW where was I?
Can be an admission of guilt,
For not having control
Of Time-frames, not securely built.

NOW, once understood
And its connection to time,
Looking ahead to much
Reflecting a lot will pay a fine.

In relation to time, fine and mine
Am conscious of more thinking of how,
Time kept under control
Can allow life’s appreciation for NOW.

Rod,

This is what I hear from all those famous motivational speakers. That everyone either looks back at their own past or looks at the future. Only a very few people look at the present moment which is now. And by the way, you and Mindy are always in the present moment. Besides, why is the present called the present? It's a gift, isn't it. Oops, now I am creating a poem.

Hi Rod,

I really liked this! To live/be in the now, truly allows one to appreciate what is happening in the moment. The past has brought each of us to the now, so there should never be any regrets.

I especially liked the first verse. It is so true.

Love in Life and After,
Mindy

Hi Mindy, as always thanks for your comments, I know we think similarly on attitude towards life and living in the “now” especially with our kids as they are growing...
This poem was a result of a debate I was having with myself around an attitude/philosophy I had always had and tried to instil in my two boys and that was “you are only as successful as your ability to think ahead”.
Having lived like that most of my life up until around sixty, realized that I had been successful, or achieved security that gave me choice, the problem was that to change that ‘mind set” of looking ahead all the time took quite a bit of discipline... hence the poem Now.
Cheers, Rod
